Final Swap (Bit late)

After the persentations on friday I realised that I hadn't posted anything about the last swap for the summer project! Whooops!

So here it is...

This image is made up of lots of different elements I found on the internet (all with permition to use)

This was my responce to Vicky's 2nd image which mainly featured black and white cut out and a photographic background. I've taken the idea of using photography and kept the whole thing black and white to tie in with Vicky's image.

First Swap

For the first swap I was given a piece of work by Vicky Hall. It's really interesting to see how other people respond to the same image. Vicky had obviously chosen to experiment with photo montage and collage. The idea of collage would have never crossed my mind.

I started off by photoshopping the original image in different ways.

I don't really like how these two came out. I also don't like the fact that there is no hand drawn element to the work anymore. For the next lot of experiments I went back and redrew the woman from Vicky's image.

Really love how this one came out. The shapes are really pretty and organic but you can still tell when you see the image as a whole that it's the woman from Vicky's image.

Pixar: Day & Night

I've been working a lot recently on my own personal ideas. They mostly involve dropping textures onto simple drawings to give them a little more character...

I went to see Toy Story 3 the other day and the mini film befor the main film was called "Day & Night". I absolutely loved it because it's exactly like what I've been doing, but animated! It's really funny and it's obvious that lots of thought has gone into it. LOVE IT!

I wasn't able to get a clip of the full film sadly.. But there is a link that tells you a little bit about it! Absolutely love this little film and felt the need to share it with you... Also... Toy Story 3 is amazing GO SEE IT NOW!!!!

Playing with textures

Been experimenting a lot with this kinda thing with my personal work. Really love the different effects you get from different textures... So thought, why not use it for this project?

I thought the colours in this tye dye were very similar to the colours i've been using so far. Really love how it came out!

More Ideas

I have been working on a few new ideas since Jo posted me some work by French artist Niki Di Saint Phalle. I really wanted to include the tree and the snake more. I think the tree has come out well but I'm not too keen on the snake. Can deffinatly be improved on...

Niki De Saint Phalle

Look at the way you have started to reduce the figure to organic shapes and colours, reminded me of the work by French artist Niki Di Saint Phalle. Much of her work focuses on the female form. These are called 'Nanas', archetypal female figures which are updated versions of "Every(wo)man." (The word "nana" is French for "dame" or "chick."). The image you have chosen is very intriguing. Try to think of it as an opportunity to unlock your imagination. What is happening in the picture? What happened before and after it? The drawings I have included above also include the same symbols of the woman, tree and snakes.

Starting Ideas For Summer Project

My first idea was to break down the image into simple shapes because realistic drawing isn't my strong point. It became apparant that the female figure and the fruit were the only solid shapes that stood out. So far i've been playing around with the female figure shape in different ways. I've also tried to incorperate the colours from a fauvist painting I love by Andre Derain.
