Found these 3 images today whist surfing about. Sadly couldn't find a website or even a name for who created them. I have no idea if these are real or just somebodies work. 

However, I felt that they were very amusing and might be of some interest or inspiration to someone...

Birthday Gift Illustration

Recently produced the above image for my friend Mil's 21st birthday. She and I are both fans of the children's tv programme Adventure Time created by Pendleton Ward. Below are some images from the show.

I do draw inspiration from this show. I really love the crazy character designs.

Came across this illustrator whilst browsing through Tumblr.com

I really love his use use of simple shapes/lines and bold blocky colours. When you really look at the images you see how simple they really are and yet they work brilliantly. I particularly like the image below because the dinosaur's skin texture has been created just by adding some simple shapes and different tones of colour.

The backgrounds in these images are also very simple and yet are still able to create a feeling of depth within in the image.

I think I need to experiment more with using sharper lines and including shapes to add texture and shading to an image.

Inspiration

Whilst looking around on DeviantArt.com I cam across this illustrator. There sadly isn't much information on her so I don't think she has any published work... yet...

I adore the style she has used for this project. I love how the characters stand out from the soft pencil backgrounds. I also like how the characters go beyond the background to make them stand out further. I never thought that coloured pencil images could work this effectively.

Music Brief: More inspiration

Another children's tv series I have been influenced by is "Chowder" created by C. H. Greenblatt. I really love the use of textured patterns in her work. The characters each have textures for their clothing that remain static as the characters move around.

My characters are also made up from painted textures to give them more depth. I really like the idea of just having cirtain parts textured. I will experiment with just having the monsters fur textured and their horns, eyes and claws as block colour.

Music Brief: Inspiration

I have really been inspired by Craig McCracken's work for the cartoon series "Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends". His characters are so different to look at and yet you can still tell they are all part of the same world.

His work seems to be produced digitally, however the lines are done in a hand-drawn style. This really appeals to the way I have been working recently, combining digital with traditional styles.

Tangled Things: Wellspring

For visual inspiration I will be looking at squiggly, tangled and knotted things. I think that if the arrows are more tangled it will make the image more interesting and also will illustrate the struggle and frustration Beverley was going through at the time...

Blast from the past!

My mother and I were rooting though some old boxes and found some of my old school drawing books from when I was 5-6years old!
I wish I could still draw with this much freedom! I was clearly a genius! :D
I'm not going to interpret the images for you...

The text is mistaken... This is not "christmas holly". This is in fact, a hord of vicious branch lizards! They have red eyes, sharp claws and attatch themselves to tress for camourflage.

These lovely creatures are called Lwos. They are like owls but have both their wings on one side and have spaghetti for legs. They live in lovely nests and eat dead mice and birds as you can see in the area I have circled for you :)

This is a Chocodile. Very similar to a crocodile except it can move much quicker due to it's longer legs. It wags it's tail like a dog and is always smiling.

These are flower trees. They have big green trunks and tiny flowers on top. Flower trees last longer than normal flowers because they are much bigger. Flower trees are also ugly...

This is what the planet earth looks like during summer from space. There are lots of flowers in summer, hence all the colour.

These are robins. But they are smarter than average robins. They know that by having wheels for feet they can move much faster on the ground. This means they can scoot around and eat up all the worms befor the stupid robins!

This is a very accurate drawing of myself when I was 6. I had very short arms back then and sadly one of my feet grew faster than the other. I evened out eventually. I also had claws...

Inspiration

In a tutorial with Ian I mentioned my inspirational image collection. Everytime I see something that takes my fancy I add it to the collection... It's gotten rather large over the past two years. I thought it might be a good idea to share some of my favourites with you. Most of them are by artists on Deviantart.com so they don't really class as practicing illustrators. However this is where most of my inspiration comes from =)

I think the running theme is clean lines mixed with texture. I also love character design and interesting colours being used together.
